Star River started as a small synergistic group of Security, Engineering and Manufacturing professional working together to evaluate how Unmanned Systems and/or Automation can and will impact security in the future. We have become a group of Security, Law Enforcement, Engineering, Manufacturing, Logistics and Energy professionals now calculating and understanding how Unmanned Systems and/or Automation will impact security.

The secret to having effective security is a combination of Deterrence, Detection, Delay and Response. There is no “voodoo magic” or “silver bullet”. James A. Acevedo has been involved in investigations and security consulting for more than 20 years. He has been designated a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) by ASIS.
During his career, he has conducted hundreds of investigations and security consulting projects around the world. I have had the honor and privilege to have worked in more than forty plus countries and nearly every state within the United States including Alaska. He was a part of the core team that conducted the security and vulnerability assessments for the entire City and County of Denver post September 9/11. Mr. Acevedo has been trained in the Sandia Laboratory Risk Assessment Methodologies and Harmonized TRA Methodology. Using that training he has gained special expertise in assessing critical infrastructure security for utilities including water/waste water systems, power companies sub-stations, black start generation stations and non-nuclear power plants (NERC CIP Standards). Mr. Acevedo has developed considerable expertise in the United States Customs Border Protection (CBP) program Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT), ISO 28000 and various Supply Chain Security Programs.
Finally, combining his passion for Aviation Engineering and Security, Mr. Acevedo has for the last six years been endeavoring to understand and evaluate how unmanned systems (land, sea and air) will impact security. Mr. Acevedo has spoken at numerous events and have written several articles on the subject. He is considered a subject matter expert (SME) with regards to Unmanned Systems both as a potential security solution and as a threat.
Mr. Wimmer has been involved in investigations and security consulting for more than 40 years. He served for nearly 22 years in the U. S. Air Force, the majority of that time as a Special Agent with the Office of Special Investigations (OSI), where he was responsible for felony-level criminal and fraud investigations, anti-terrorism and counterespionage operations. He has also spent more than 20 years in corporate security and investigations mostly with various divisions of PInkerton. During his long career, he has conducted and supervised thousands of investigations and security consulting projects around the world.
Mr. Wimmer has worked in more than 60 countries and in every state within the United States. He has lived abroad for 18 years a (lived and worked in Vietnam, Thailand, Republic of Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong SAR, People’s Republic of China and the Philippines), the Near East, Europe (lived and worked in the UK and Germany), the Caribbean, Latin America (lived and worked in Honduras) and even on the Polar Ice Cap.
Mr. Wimmer also has extensive experience in dealing with international terrorism having worked against terrorists targeting the Crown Prince of Iran, U.S. forces in Berlin during the first Gulf War, against radical Islamic fundamentalists and the New People’s Army in the Philippines after the eruption of the Mount Pinatubo volcano, and, against al-Qaeda affiliates in Pakistan after the assassination of five Union Texas Petroleum employees in Karachi.
He is also a member of the Espionage Research Institute and wrote the book on how businesses can protect themselves and counter business espionage. His book, entitled “Business Espionage – Risk, Threats and Countermeasures” was published by Elsevier. A recognized expert on security and investigative matters, Mr. Wimmer has spoken around the world on international terrorism, business espionage, crisis management/business continuity planning, travel security and dealing with business fraud, purchasing fraud and kickbacks.
